Ideas for Junior Girl Scouts
(Can undertake longer project commitments.)
- Perform a puppet show at a nursing home.
- Do a flag ceremony to open a Girl Scout or community (PTA, Rotary, Junior League)
meeting.
- Make toys, games or crafts for a Head Start program site or pediatric unit of a
hospital.
- Help your Brownie sister troop to learn basic camping skills.
- Collect clothing and donate it to a charity that serves the homeless.
- Assist a community agency by wrapping holiday gifts for needy families.
- Adopt an adult who is physically and/or developmentally challenged and provide
companionship, assistance with activities that promote independent living and/or
opportunities for quality leisure activities.
- Plan and set up a wildlife conversation exhibit at school or other community center.
- Help build a nature trail and conduct guided tours to teach Girl Scouts and others the value of wildlife.
- Build and erect birdbaths in the summer.
- Plan a program with a day care center or nursery school. Give a puppet show; share a treat, read stories, play games, or make things together.
- Put together various "dress-up" costumes for little people at a day care center, church school or kindergarten. Be sure to
take picture of your new "Stars".
- Baby-sit so that parents may vote on Election Day or attend a Girl Scout event.
- Adopt a lot, corner, park, playground, community center or neighborhood you can keep clean and plan improvements.
- Adopt a grandparent in your neighborhood or who is a resident in a local nursing home. Visit them, and remember
them at birthday and holiday times.
- Decorate the lounge or Dining Room of a community center for a holiday.
- Promote engraving valuables to discourage theft. Contact your local Automobile Association or law enforcement agency or city hall for engraving pens.
- Do clerical tasks such as stuff envelopes, collating papers or putting together packets for your Girl Scout Council or other community organizations.
- Help with a community fair.
- Assist with a restoration of a historic landmark.
- Develop and participate in a Girl Scout and Senior Citizen "Pen Pal" Program.
- Make therapeutic toys for children who are physically and/or developmentally challenged.
- Conduct a bicycle safety program for a Daisy or Brownie Girl Scout troop.
- Plan and carry out the entertainment for a leader recognition event.
- Accept the responsibility for cooking meals for your family for one day.
- Sew an afghan or blanket for a needy person or family.
- Decorate the fellowship hall of a church for a religious holidays or observance.
- Act as usher for a community theater.
- Participate in a holiday program at a church or synagogue.
- Assist with a Daisy troop in your service unit.
- Help to clean benches or trails at a park.
- Help to beautify the grounds of your group's sponsor.
- Make toys, visits and plan a special event for the first baby girl born at a local hospital on March 12th, the Birthday of
Girl Scouting.
- Assist at a day camp for girls who have not yet had an opportunity to be Girl Scouts.
